Lea Denise Smith was born on August 27, 1970, to Gloria Earthman and James Smith in Columbus, Ohio. She attended the Columbus Public Schools and graduated from Brookhaven High School and later the Ohio State School of Cosmetology.
Lea was the true definition of a hustler. She believed in working hard, making a way out of no way, and providing for the people she loved. She had a natural drive and determination that carried her through life, and many would say she had the rare ability to turn a dime into a dollar any day. No matter the circumstances, she always found a way to keep pushing forward.
Lea was a woman of many talents and accomplishments. She worked as a cosmetologist, helping others feel confident and beautiful while building relationships with those who sat in her chair. Her personality, conversation, and care made her more than just a stylist; she was someone people trusted and enjoyed being around. Later in life, Lea obtained her Commercial Driver’s License and became a dump truck driver, demonstrating her strength, independence, and willingness to step into any role necessary to provide and succeed.
While Lea worked hard and took pride in her accomplishments, nothing meant more to her than her family. Her children and grandchildren were the center of her world. She loved them fiercely and supported them wholeheartedly, always wanting the best for them and doing whatever she could to see them succeed.
Lea was especially proud of her oldest daughter, Shantia, whom she supported in every way possible throughout life. Her encouragement, love, and presence were constant reminders that family always comes first. She never gave up on Shantia or any of her kids and family.
Her grandchildren were one of the greatest joys in her life. She cherished the time she spent with them and took pride in watching them grow. Lea was also looking forward to welcoming a new blessing into the family as she was soon to become a great-grandmother to baby Miracle, a moment that would have filled her heart with love and excitement.
Anyone who had the chance to meet Lea knew that experiencing her was an experience like no other. She had a presence that could light up a room, a personality that people gravitated toward, and a spirit that could never be ignored. She was strong, loving, real, and unforgettable.
Lea departed this life and entered eternity suddenly on February 26, 2026, while doing what she loved, driving a dump truck. We were left surprised and saddened but realize God has a perfect plan for us all.
Lea was greeted at Heaven’s Gates by her parents, Gloria Jean Earthman (Saunders) and James Earl Smith; daughter, Shantia Corbin; and nephews, Brandon Hoston and Deonte Smith.
She leaves to cherish her life and carry on her legacy son, Michael Corbin; daughter, Lexus Corbin; sisters, Mabel Michaels and Sherri Smith; brothers, William Saunders and James and Eric Thompson; grandchildren, Michael, TreShon, Miracle, Jeffrey, Ashton, Jemiriae, Ramoni, Lauren, Isabella, Kali, and Glen; lifelong friend and father of her children, Michael Corbin; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Lea was a woman whose strength, determination, and love for her family left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She lived a life defined by strength, hustle, love, and loyalty. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, family, and the countless people whose lives she touched. Though she is no longer with us physically, her spirit, wisdom, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
If you ever got the chance to experience Lea Smith, then you already know—she was truly one of a kind.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
